A REAL MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE Week of 2019/08/05
Although it is two months since Memorial Day, it was so meaningful this year that
it moved me to tell about it now. The delay is because while the main media story was
the next day, my copier machines are all on the 'disabled list' and it was only until mid
July that copies were able to be made to allow a real digestion of the story despite
having lived it.
It seems that for the last forty-five years the Floral Haven Cemetery has held an
"Avenue of Flags" beginning on Saturday morning and ending Monday evening, at least
since Congress established the Day as the last Monday of May rather than May 30.
This year there were just under 4,000 flags flying for the weekend on metal poles lining
the drives of the cemetery. The flags are the large casket covering flags that our
'grateful' Government has military units remove from the casket before burial, fold,
and present to the survivors of a departed member or veteran of military.
This year there were, if memory serves correct, 167 new flags raised for the first
time on Saturday morning to join the returning ones from previous years that had been
placed by JROTC and Boy Scout unit members on Friday. Each flag has printed on
the white end the name of the person for whom it was given. The pole likewise has a
permanent plate on the pole also labeled. During the 'off season' the poles are stored
and each flag is examined for cleanliness, washed if necessary, solidness and replaced
if necessary, all at the cost of Floral Haven. This year it was my honor and privilege to
be the representative for a new flag for Sgt. Al Price, co-founder of the WW II Vets of
Tulsa club, placed by the Club. There is a special ceremony where all the 'newcomers'
are raised simultaneously Saturday Morning.
For some years cadet members of a Civil Air Patrol Squadron in Broken Arrow
have been replicating the guard and changing of the guard at the 'Tomb of the Unknown'
at a half-scale replica from 1:00 P.M. Saturday to 5:00 P.M. Memorial Day, straight
through. They are the only unit in the Nation approved to do so, and from my
observation are accurate. This year a new, full scale, replica of the Tomb was
dedicated and will be used in the future. It so happens that Jim DeLoach, moderator
of our 'WW II Vets of Tulsa, now called "All Veterans Gathering" has been telling us
about a "secret salute" now used by the Sgt of the Guard at Arlington. The 'salute'
happens when the Sgt .sees a person he/she believes to be a veteran upon passing the
person will scrape his/her heel as a salute. Most are as yet not aware of this so do
not return the 'salute'.
A past commander of the CAP Squadron was visiting our meeting on Thursday
before Memorial Day with his daughter, who is one of the Guard Sgts, heard the story
and mentioned afterwards that the Squadron Guard Sgts would adopt the 'salute'
during the guard detail over the weekend. Unfortunately for Jim, when he received the
'salute' he had so much camera gear that he couldn't render a return. So, on Saturday
afternoon when I returned to watch the changing a reporter had been questioning me
and been told about this and the duty Sgt. passing in front of where we were standing
rendered and it was my privilege to properly return. Perhaps the first time that was
done in Oklahoma.
The whole weekend operation is most touching and at the same time uplifting to
me to see the patriotism and dedication to duty demonstrated by these young, mostly
high school age, participants. Watching all of them carrying out their duties gives me
encouragement for the future of our "one of a kind" nation. It is without hesitation or
reservation that the strongest recommendation can be made to all loyal and proud of
the USA citizens to make an effort to visit this program next Memorial Day weekend.
It will make you proud, as it did me.
There is no admission charge for any of the functions all weekend. It is
recommenced that arrival for the opening ceremonies on Saturday be at least 30
minutes before the scheduled 9:00 AM with a program, this year featuring
Congressman Kevin Hern, before the raising of the 'new' flags at about 9:30. Just
before the official opening there was the "wreath presentation" at the 'tomb' in
accordance with the procedure at Arlington.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US ..

Having been critical of the, in my opinion, misconduct of certain members of the
Congress, it seem to be proper to offer some suggestion on how to first stop the
progression of violence before more are killed than in the terror shooting in Las Vegas,
and then what could be done to reverse this trend that seems to have groups and/or
individuals sponsoring and financing the massive unlawful conduct and speech going on.
It seems to me that the root problem is, and has been for some time, a failure at all
levels of government to properly enforce the laws already on the books. This failure
certainly has different levels of officials of same to find guilty of refusing or, being
incapable of, exercising their sworn duty to 'maintain protection for the population from
enemies both without and within'. In some cases it would appear that the officials
involved who ordered police at whatever level involved to "stand down" did so
deliberately.
One relatively recent example is the mayor of Baltimore issuing an order to,
paraphrasing, 'just let them get it out of their system'. The result of course was
substantial property damage to owners not involved at all but just located in an area
where the rioters happened to be carrying out their 'vengeance' for a perceived
improper act of local police on one of their ethnic group. Turned out the police were
correct.
It is apparent also that in some cases such violence against property and people
is occurring because those doing the felonies are oriented to doing these things and
there has been a long time failure to of law enforcement, including the courts, to bring
such people to justice and enact punishment plus retribution for the damage involved.
Part of this situation can be blamed on a less than honest media, of all types, in
reporting and a tendency to inflate or inflame the report, twist the wording so as to
imply, or state, that the actions were "justified" because of some real or imagined
misconduct by law enforcement.
Of course any 'journalist' of worth has an overwhelming desire to have the
'scoop' with her/his name mentioned as the source. All too often in such cases the old
adage of "haste makes waste" is in full sway and the truth in the matter turns out to be
totally opposite to what appears to be true in the beginning. This same statement could
be made where military or diplomatic actions are involved.
Also involved, it appears to me, in such failures of law enforcement could be
corruption or incompetence within the management of law enforcement organizations.
A most recent example would be the continuing to surface corruption in Federal law
enforcement units including the FBI, CIA, and even in the Department of Justice going
back, it appears, more than a decade. It is really unfortunate that the "civil service laws"
enacted early in the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt, beginning in 1933, has
served to make it almost impossible to remove wrong acting bureaucrats from their
positions. Prior to that time it was the practice in the Federal Government that all hired
personnel, even down to Postmasters, were subject to replacement upon the
inauguration of a different President. The incoming "POTUS" could retain those
believed to be honest and effective.
This is carried out even today in the staff members of both houses of Congress.
To his credit my own Representative in OK District One, Kevin Hern, kept three very
effective, honest, and interested in constituent staff members. They have been effective
and helpful in representing him to the voters and are my first choice of contact when
needing something or having information or a suggestion for the Congressman.
Incidentally, in what I consider a wise and economical move there was no change in
address or telephone number involved in the change in office holder. Again a wise move!!
Back to the first subject of discussion, there can, and will not, be any improvement
by reduction in the violence and lawlessness we are having until a strong move is
implemented to bring wrong doers to justice with meaningful and prompt retribution!!!
PRESDT-45 is finding resistance in Congress, even from some who were elected with an

What kind of men were they?

Eleven were merchants.
Nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated.
But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the
penalty would be death if they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept
from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his
debts, and died in rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his
family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was
kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton ,
Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General
Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged
General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson
died bankrupt.
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife,
and she died within a few months.
John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children

A NATION IN DANGER Week of 2019/07/22
The way things are going continues to cause me greater and greater concern. Let's
face it, we are fully at war, a non-shooting war so far, but none the less one that could
spell the end of the USA as it was founded and all the rights and freedoms we were
born and educated to accept and revere. Of course the reason the term "at war" is
used is because of the continuing attacks by massive groups of non-citizens illegally
invading into our borders and relatively recent immigrants now elected to political office.
The latter group almost universally has moved into the Democrat Party, particularly
noticeable in the House of Congress where those of the younger group seem to be in an
open fight to take control from Speaker Pelosi "Queen Nancy".
At the forefront are three young women (certainly do not appear by words and
actions to deserve the title of "lady"), 'AOC' is the most vocal and visible, appears to
be of Hispanic origin, likes to operate on her very high opinion of her own appearance,

would come to pass with the Union broken up into five to seven small nations based
on citizen political philosophy make up. Unfortunately my copy is loaned out so the
best available is my memory of the 'central' nation being made up of Texas, Oklahoma,
New Mexico (surprise), Kansas, Nebraska (I think), and possibly Arkansas. However,
with the population movement and radicalization of the Democrat Party there have been
some changes in the make-up of some states, particularly Colorado and Missouri and
possibly Iowa.

VIEW: 19-28: A Governor Keeping Promises

A GOVERNOR KEEPING PROMISES Week of 2019/07/15
On July 6 there appeared in the daily newspaper a story, on Page A-9, carrying
the headline: "Stitt bars state agencies from hiring lobbyists". Credit was given to
Keaton Ross of The Oklahoman". As an explanation for the location, the Tulsa World
now, they reported, doing the printing for the Oklahoma City paper and often each
carries stories by the reporters for the other. The Sub-Head read: "EXECUTIVE
ORDER - He calls the practice "inappropriate use of state funds" How about that? It
has been going on for decades, against the will of those of us believing in propriety in
the use of State tax funds!!
Imagine that, a top State elected official who is trying to fulfill his campaign
promises and has some sympathy and consideration for his overtaxed constituents, the
whole state population! While some may claim that he may be emulating the example
of PRESDT-45 it appears to me that he is really sincere in his efforts to ease the burden
and lower the tax load in the State. The result of a successful carrying out of such a
program could very well bring about a substantial boom in the economy of the State
of Oklahoma.
Unfortunately, it appears that there is a rather substantial 'deep state' determined
to maintain it's power and existence in Oklahoma City, just as is trying to block Trump
in Washington. In the last few decades there have been passed efforts toward that end
in the form of 'term limits' for the elected officials to emulate the long time four, now
eight, year term limit on the Governors. Unfortunately term limits have no effect on the
'bureaucrats that enjoy the protection of the State civil service statutes' that make it
more difficult to replace those who exist to enhance their own power and benefits.
The story states that Gov. Stitt filed an executive order on July 5 "barring state
agencies from hiring outside lobbyists as long as he remains in office". It would seem
that it would be unlawful for one governor to attempt to prevent, by order, any action
by a succeeding governor. Further it stated that he had filed another executive order
in January requiring all State agencies to file a list of every lobbyist each had hired and
the terms of their contract. It also prohibited these agencies from renewing or entering
into a lobbyist contract through the current fiscal year. The story stated that there had
been "$1.48 million" of such contracts running until the end of the fiscal year. As a late
U.S. Senator from Illinois, Everett Dirkson-R, once stated several decades ago: "a
million here and a million there and pretty soon you are talking some real money".
Frankly, it is pleasing to me to learn the Gov. is taking these steps to, hopefully,
reduce some of the gross waste in spending that seems to be endemic in government
at all levels. In my memory is that Oklahoma budgets in the 1940-1960 era were in
the tens to hundreds of millions of dollars, and now they are in the billions. Also the
number of buildings at the Capital has grown from one or two to more than I have
been down there enough to count. Of course, as the staff of any organization is
increased so is the need for space for those added employees to work.
Only three agencies were mentioned by name. Two, the Lottery Commission
and the Turnpike Authority seem to me to be self-funded and perhaps not spending
tax dollars and so it might be said that their contracting with lobbyists would be
different. However, in my mind the state employees should not be spending money
from either source for outside representatives to the Legislature in attempting to sway
legislation that could very well be counter to what is best for the population. It is
rather obvious that whatever the staff members want is for their benefit and not
necessarily of any benefit to those of us who are the ultimate "stockholders"
All in all it is hopeful to have both a President and Governor who are acting as
if they really do care for the citizens who elected them. If we can just find a way to
get more like them to be in leadership in the Congress and Legislature it will really
become a better life. Also if somehow the nasty, mean-mouth and totally lacking in
truth screaming and violence coming from the opposition could be stifled things
would become more like it used to be, before many running around today were born.
