THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

PLAYING ROPE-A-DOPE
People of my generation can remember the antics of the former boxing champion Muhammad Ali; one of his strategies was to use a tactic which he called Rope-A-Dope. He would lay back on the ropes and cover up and allow his opponent to continually punch at him until he was exhausted, then Ali would unleash a flurry of punches to win the match. His strategy may have worked well for him, but the fact remains that sooner or later he did have to throw some punches. As I look at the political process in our nation's capital, I see too many of our elected Republicans who think that they can win the debate by laying on the ropes and not fighting back.
When you look at politics objectively any logical person can see that it is nothing short of war. Fortunately we have a president who does not have a fear of throwing some punches when he is attacked; I feel that many of the other so-called conservative Republicans should take a lesson from President Trump. Our liberal opponents are relentless, they are masters at manipulating the American public and they have no respect for the founding principles of this nation. Sal Alinisky's Rules for Radicals has become the standard play book in their political strategy. On the basis of any flimsy allegation they will accuse a conservative of being racist, uncaring, homophobic, or any number of adjectives. Too many of our elected officials just deny and try to fend off the allegations without punching back. The media is all too quick to render judgment when they don't know all of the facts when it comes to conservatives. How many of you remember the recent story about the Covington school boys wearing the MAGA ball caps and being accused of instigating a confrontation when in fact they were the ones who were being harassed? The liberals love to cast out the word racist when anyone takes a position they do not agree with, has anyone noticed the rhetoric by freshman democrat Representative Ilhan Omar?
We conservatives are issue oriented people, however we live in a society that for the most part doesn't care about the issue; they have a bad habit of listening to the person who shouts the loudest or makes the most outrageous accusation. Playing rope a dope might work some of the time, but it is not working at this time. It is time that we call a spade a spade and find a way to fire back because the mainstream media is not going to tell both sides of the issues that are facing our nation. The founders of this nation faced more dangers than we do today and yet they had the courage to throw the punches and not just lay on the ropes. If we don't become forceful in our beliefs the America that we grew up knowing will be gone forever.
