THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW
BY RUSSELL TURNER
FOOL ME ONCE
There is an old saying about fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. If there was any profession that old saying would apply to it would be the mainstream media. For months there has been speculation about the contents of the long awaited Mueller Report, since its release the mainstream media's reputation has taken a huge hit. I have talked to several reporters throughout the years and I have seen some good ones, and I have had the misfortune of meeting some complete jerks. A good reporter is a person that is unbiased and will not show support or condemnation for the person he is interviewing. The poor reporter is the one who has a political view and ignores the facts when it comes to an issue that he supports or opposes. The Mueller report clears President Trump of any Russian collusion during the 2016 election, but the unspoken collusion is the sorry state of the mainstream media in this country.
For many months I have been critical of the mainstream media and their biased style of reporting. Like a card player who would continue to play a losing hand, they harped on the so-called Russian collusion story for weeks on end. They would report on rumors and fake stories and put it out for public consumption as if it were gospel truth. In my opinion the media has become just another part of the liberal establishment in this country, I feel that their actions were a tool to harass and demoralize our president. President Trump must be a very strong man to endure the constant backdrop of a phony accusation and still do his job and do the things that make our country function. The media very seldom, if ever, reported on the positive accomplishments Trump made during his first two years; all they seemed to care about was reporting negative stories. In the case of the stories about the so-called Russian collusion they owe our president a huge apology. Will he get it? Probably not.
If the media has any intention to redeem themselves they should focus their energies on the leakers and saboteurs who promoted the false stories to begin with. I am thankful that our president was vindicated, but we should not spend all of our time celebrating his innocence. We all should be angry at the poor quality of biased news reporting that has become the norm in our country. The mainstream media has fooled a bunch of Americans and that is their fault; but it is our fault if we allow it to happen again.
