Be sure to read the last few lines.  This is 99% of the reason for the campaign to control guns.

Subject: gun control
I do not know who Robert Goltl is but his analysis is very detailed and makes sense to me as far as putting thing into perspective.  He or someone put a lot of time and effort in getting all these statistics together, some I have seen before.

There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. U.S. population 324,059,091 as of Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.000000925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:

• 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
• 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
• 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence
• 3% are accidental discharge deaths

So technically, "gun violence" is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100. Still too many? Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?
• 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago
• 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore
• 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit
• 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years)

So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities. All 4 of those cities have strict gun laws, so it is not the lack of law that is the root cause.

This basically leaves 3,825 for the entire rest of the nation, or about 75 deaths per state. That is an average because some States have much higher rates than others. For example, California had 1,169 and Alabama had 1.

Now, who has the strictest gun laws by far? California, of course, but understand, so it is not guns causing this. It is a crime rate spawned by the number of criminal persons residing in those cities and states. So if all cities and states are not created equally, then there must be something other than the tool causing the gun deaths.

Are 5,100 deaths per year horrific? How about in comparison to other deaths? All death is sad and especially so when it is in the commission of a crime but that is the nature of crime. Robbery, death, rape, assault all is done by criminals and thinking that criminals will obey laws is ludicrous. That's why they are criminals.

But what about other deaths each year?
• 40,000+ die from a drug overdose–THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!
• 36,000 people die per year from the flu, far exceeding the criminal gun deaths
• 34,000 people die per year in traffic fatalities(exceeding gun deaths even if you include suicide)

Now it gets good:
• 200,000+ people die each year (and growing) from preventable medical errors. You are safer in Chicago than when you are in a hospital!

• 710,000 people die per year from heart disease. It's time to stop the double cheeseburgers! So what is the point? If Obama and the anti-gun movement focused their attention on heart disease, even a 10% decrease in cardiac deaths would save twice the number of lives annually of all gun-related deaths (including suicide, law enforcement, etc.). A 10% reduction in medical errors would be 66% of the total gun deaths or 4 times the number of criminal homicides......Simple, easily preventable 10% reductions!

So you have to ask yourself, in the grand scheme of things, why the focus on guns? It's pretty simple.:
Taking away guns gives control to governments.

The founders of this nation knew that regardless of the form of government, those in power may become corrupt and seek to rule as the British did by trying to disarm the populace of the colonies. It is not difficult to understand that a disarmed populace is a controlled populace.

Thus, the second amendment was proudly and boldly included in the U.S. Constitution. It must be preserved at all costs.

So the next time someone tries to tell you that gun control is about saving lives, look at these facts and remember these words from Noah Webster: "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword, because the whole body of the people are armed and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force at the command of Congress can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power."

Remember, when it comes to "gun control," the important word is "control," not "gun."

DEFERRED GRATIFICATION

I feel that the biggest mistake that we are making today is the failure to teach the younger generations the virtue of saving a portion of what we earn. I feel very fortunate that my parents and grandparents taught me the art of saving money. Throughout my life I have often been called a tightwad or skinflint, but I wear those characterizations with pride. Leaning to live within your means is a learned trait. It may entail driving a used car even though it would be nice to be behind the wheel of a bright shiny new one, or it might be eating a bowel of beans instead of a juicy T-bone steak. In the end you were able to get from point A to point B and have enough nourishment to keep you body going. Several years ago there was a study where small children were given marshmallows. At first each child was given one and was told if they would not eat it for a certain period of time they would receive another one, but if they eat the marshmallow before the time had elapsed they would not be given another marshmallow. Some children were able to resist the temptation and not eat the first one, while the others gobbled their marshmallow down. It was interesting to take a look at the same children after they grew up; the ones who resisted the temptation were much better at saving their money and conducting business as adults.

Deferred gratification goes hand in hand with free market capitalism. I recently read an article about the millennial generation (aged 21 to 32 years); according to the article, 66% of the millennials have nothing saved for retirement. While some attribute the cause to be student loans, stagnant wages or unemployment, the end result is many don't see a future in our economic system. From what I have witnessed, too many of our young people have been indoctrinated by liberals who want to blame capitalism for all of our problems; there are people who have bought into the concept of socialism and collectivism. They fail to understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch; it takes so much work to make our system function.

When our country was colonized our ancestors experimented with collectivism, that experiment nearly caused our founders to starve to death. What kills capitalism is the elimination of capitalism. In order to create wealth, there needs to be capital. The redistribution of wealth disincentivizes people from putting the time and effort into creating wealth. During the 2016 campaign Bernie Sanders was advocating all kinds of free stuff right now. Margret Thatcher summarized socialism in the best terms I have ever heard. She said, "Socialism works well until you spend everyone else's money".

The people who promote socialism do not seem to understand that some people are lazy and refuse to work, in their twisted philosophy they think the lazy ones are entitled to the same things as the more industrious people. Free market capitalism is the best economic system known to man, if we as a nation continue to neglect the teaching of deferred gratification our days as a great nation are over.

VIEW: 18-14: Largest Tax Cuts/Revisions

VIEW FROM HERE
By Bob McDowell (Born Neil Carson) Number 18-14
LARGEST TAX CUTS/REVISIONS Week of 2018/04/02
In late December, to activate before year end, PRESDT-45 signed into law
earlier passed legislation that established what has been labeled as the 'biggest tax
reduction in the history of the USA'. This was quite an accomplishment and
fulfillment of a campaign pledge. It was opposed by all in Congress with a 'D'
behind their names in voter registration and Democrat leaders railed that it was
"Armageddon",'a disaster', and in the face of the National Debt and deficits. Also
the lying media supporters pushed forth the story that it was a tax cut for 'the rich
and corporations' in attempts to turn the population, especially the uninformed,
totally against the Republican majority in Congress and the White House.
These accusations have continued except for occasional interruptions by
shootings directing their attention back to 'the disarmament of Americans' agenda
deemed essential for those of the C/S persuasion movement to turn us from a
"representative Republic" into a Communist or Socialist dictatorship where those
out of the government would be reduced to the condition of slavery. It should be
remembered that neither form can be established without a complete disarmament
of the population, or a population that has for at least three generations been
completely brainwashed by a complicit media propaganda machine.
Now it appears that PRESDT-45 has been vindicated in that the 2017
business growth has been the largest in history, exceeding even those in the 1980's
following the PRESRR-40 tax cuts. Those cuts were achieved in an agreement with
the Democrat controlled Congress that there would also be spending cuts.
Unfortunately the agreement was renounced by them and no spending cuts occurred,
which allowed the continued heavy growth of the 'establishment' bureaucracy. This
growth, especially during the 16 years of Democrat administrations, has resulted in the
present entrenched and job secured mob of C/S minded employees, especially in the
departments with regulatory and police authority over the population.
Enough of the history lesson. The tax cuts and rule reductions we are now
enjoying in the form of simplified forms and regulations on much of our activities are
certainly a good start. It is my understanding that the 'alternative minimum tax' has
been also removed. The tax on Social Security payments to retirees should also be
removed, if it has not, since the taxes collected before payments to it were already
made, thus making them double taxation on those least able to afford them.
It has been my understanding of the law making process is that it parallels the
business deal making program. You ask for everything you want, or more, and take
what you can get, then return later to attempt to finish the job. PRESDT-45 is, it
appears, following that course of action. There are a number of things that should
have been included, especially a termination of the prepaying of income taxes by
either payroll deductions or estimated tax quarterly payments. These were enacted
during World War II as a means to gain revenue 'as we go' to fund the war effort.
The law was presented as 'temporary' to end with the war. Like most so-called
'temporary' taxes it now seems embedded, but should be terminated.
Those who deliberately 'overpay' to gain a 'refund' at reporting time are
making an expensive mistake since the Government is gaining an interest free loan
until refund time. If kept until tax time the money could be used to save for
unexpected needs, paying the taxes when due, or just laid back in savings. Also, if
everyone had to pay the yearly taxes at one time, they would suddenly realize just
how heavily we are taxed and put more pressure on elected officials to reduce
government waste so that taxes could also come down and still operate without a
deficit!! In that wonderful situation, the massive national debt of over $20 Trillion
could gradually be reduced, thus reducing the INTEREST being paid out on that debt!!
Remembering the Biblical principle that it is immoral to collect taxes on the
payments for a persons's labor, the collection of taxes on income is therefor also
immoral, and was UNCONSTITUTIONAL until the ratification of Amendment XVI
on February 3, 1913. Education indicated to me that this was pushed during the
Wilson Administration by his Chief of Staff a Col. House. It also indicated that Pres.
Wilson was at the time incapacitated as a result of a stroke and that Col. House was
at least a Socialist. It we could repeal that amendment, it would be quite easy to enact
the 'FairTax' and permanently have no need for income taxes, or the onerous and
expensive record keeping and reporting caused by them!!

WHAT OATH

I find it strange that we Americans ask all of our elected officials to take an oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of our nation before they begin their term of office, but we tolerate the ones who refuse to honor that oath. The latest example is the mayor of Oakland California, Libby Schaaf. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] is charged with the task of arresting people who are in this country illegally. The mayor of Oakland took it upon herself to tweet out a message warning the community that ICE would be conducting an operation in her town within 24 hours.  This whole idea of sanctuary cities and sanctuary states has gotten out of hand.

I have said it on several occasions, what part of illegal do they not understand? Anytime someone comes into our country without permission they are violating our laws. It is no different than someone coming into our home and making themself comfortable without your permission. I wonder if Mayor Schaaf would warn carjackers and thieves when the police would be patrolling certain areas of her city.   I have held public office and I took the oath of office seriously, I took that oath as seriously as I did when I took the oath when I married my wife.  It is a sad day when we have people who promised to enforce the law of the land then start deciding which ones they don't want to enforce.  There is a word for this kind of behavior, it is called anarchy.

We keep hearing the phrase of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, but we need to remember that we currently have laws on the books that define the legal and illegal way to come into this country. Until those laws are repealed they are the law. It was just like the penalty that was imposed upon those of us who refused to take part in Obamacare. Like many others in this nation I paid the penalty. We were not given the option to ignore the law; instead we worked to elect President Trump who promised to repeal the mandate.

The actions of the mayor have some serious consequences. She is putting the safety of the public at risk, and according to a recent article the illegal workers in California have taken over the blue collar trades in that state. The construction industry in California once offered a starting wage of about $45 an hour in the late 1980s. Fast-forward to 2018 — nearly two decades into when illegal aliens began flooding the industry — now those wages have fallen by more than half, standing at just $11 an hour.

We in the small business sector are under increasing regulations that do nothing but increase the cost to stay in business and heaven forbid if we don't adhere to the letter of the law. Now we have elected officials playing selective enforcement with our laws and often they are not held accountable. It is time for our elected officials to play by the same rules the rest of us have to do on a daily basis. It is time to put Americans first and honor the oath they took.

VIEW FROM HERE
By Bob McDowell (Born Neil Carson) Number 18-13
Teacher Union Outrage Week of 2018/03/26
In recent weeks the news? media seems to be unable to find something news-
worthy to talk and write about except a union official generated uproar for rather large
salary increases. The amounts demanded appear to have been selected to obtain the
maximum amount of attention brought to the already overtaxed population from whom
the money for the whole government, including its education operation, is obtained. As
more time goes along resulting in more factual information beginning to show up, it
appears to many of us that this is denigrating into a long time typical 'union bullying
operation'. It adversely affects me to the point that sources are deleted where sound is
involved and left sitting where it is in the printed page.
It is even more aggravating to see the looks on faces of those shouting demands
for more and more money. Admittedly my opinion is that for most of history those in
the classroom teaching 'profession' have been embarrassingly underpaid, even from
when my presence was beginning in school. The situation was rather completely
reversed upon reaching the university level however.
It seems to me that those demanding more and quite willing to 'walkout' thus
leaving the 'children' that they otherwise protest they are doing things for really are
ready to use them as pawns. After all, it will be necessary for schools to be in session
longer in the Summer to make up for the lost days. Imagine how much that will
inconvenience those families, some at great expense, because of necessary plan
changes.
On another angle, it is my understanding that each teacher signs a contract for
each year to provide services and so being under contract, a walkout becomes a
'breach of contract' and makes the individual teacher subject to penalties, including
dismissal, for the breach. Of course it has appeared that some of the school officials
are in full support of these improper actions. All this to the detriment of their
'customers' the children.
Notice I do not use the word "Kids" as 'kid' happens to mean 'baby goat'!!
Having reared five such to become prosperous and useful adult citizens, their late
mother and I must have done not too bad a job.
Information has developed in the discussions, at least on air, of the claim of "no
raise for ten years" that turns out to be totally false. If my informants are correct, each
teacher has received an increase each year of her/his service. Admittedly not huge,
but several hundred dollars per year added. Those of us on Social Security certainly
have not seen such, despite increased costs of almost everything. That, of course, is
because of the items being used to determine if an increase is warranted. Also, the
teachers have a rather generous retirement program plus, at least in Oklahoma, a fully
paid medical insurance for life.
In my opinion, the teachers union leaders are pushing this in usual union methodology
but in doing so they are risking the denigration of teaching from a 'profession' to just
another worker position.
Having brought out the wrongfulness of their actions it is proper, in my opinion, to
make a suggestion that has occurred to me. It would certainly reduce the reason for
criticism if instead of a 'walkout' the teachers would each take the time to calculate
the 'per hour' pay according to the hours expected under contract. Then when it is
necessary to work extra hours, as most claim is normal, submit a statement each week,
or month, for the extra time spent, at 'time and a half'. Going public with that would
make much more sense than complaining about low pay and demanding large
immediate increases. It also would be much more 'professional' than the mean talk
and mob actions that are presently on the table.
My memory is quite clear, even 75 years after high school graduation, how the
teachers in Lee, Horace Mann, Central, and the priests at Cascia Hall seemed truly
dedicated to us students. In those days they truly made an effort to see that we
students knew the subject being taught, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this.
Unfortunately, those of us in the classes still breathing have outlived practically all of
our teachers, although a precious few lived long enough to attend the 50 year reunion.
It is my hope, but not expectation, that intelligence and common sense will rise
up and enter into the decision making process. It really appears that the union leaders
are making an effort to stir up unrest. Perhaps the bill in the Oklahoma Legislature that
would mandate union representation elections would have a positive effect on this
situation, for the betterment of the teachers individual positions.

VIEW FROM HERE
By Bob McDowell (Born Neil Carson) Number 18-12
UNIVERSAL DNA DATABASE? Week of 2018/03/19
It has long been a question in my mind, since the development of the national
criminal DNA database, why said database could not be expanded, in a separate
list, to cover everyone. This would expedite the search for names of victims of the
various damage and fatal incidents occurring on an almost daily basis. Also, of
particular interest to me as an adoptee, assisting in uniting adoptees with biologic
relatives, upon willingness of both sides to be reunited, or at lease knowledge of
background and medical history sorely needed by adoptees.
It has been my position that if there were such a national data base with optional
to person listings, I would sign up as soon as its existence and method of listing became
available, just in case some tragedy were to happen and identification of the body no
longer needed by me could otherwise not be identified. This for the benefit of my
remaining family, and/or interested friends. As an aside, the OSBI DNA lab was
involved in the establishment of the existing criminal data base. This was spearheaded,
I was told, by my step granddaughter who was then in its lab. Stating this is a source
of pride to me.
What continues to irritate me is the inflexible opposition of certain individuals, and
groups such as ACLU, to having any sort of a mandatory data base, even of those of
the criminal society. It seems as though they are more interested in the law breakers
than the law abiders, who are the vast majority of those residing in the USA. Keep in
mind that those referred to by those of the C/S persuasion as "undocumented
immigrants" are in reality law breakers, and therefor truly criminals, whether felony or
misdemeanor. It is not my opinion that they are really soft hearted towards those, but
that they are determined to end the REPUBLIC form of government given to us by
the founders and substitute a communist or socialist dictatorship where they would be
the ruling class and we would be a disarmed and therefor a helpless slave class.
There have been too many recent instances of killings where the culprit was able
to acquire a more powerful weapon under the legal process because of an accidental,
or deliberate, method of not being spotted during the required 'background check' at
the time of purchase of one or more weapons. Also, no person with a documented
and/or court ordered mental deficiency can legally own, posses, or handle a weapon.
As an aside those individuals are legally prevented from even registering to vote, but
many actually do and in some jurisdictions vote without being registered. The laws are
perfectly clear that no person with a record of crime conviction can own, posses, or
even touch a firearm. Yet several recent killings have developed just such situations
The situation of DNA lists was brought back to my attention by a story in the
March 4 issue of the daily news(?)paper that was headlined "Murder in VA. Sparks
call to expand DNA databank". It carried a sub-head titled "Opponents say taking
samples for minor crimes goes too far". Credit for the story was given to Denise
Lavoie of the Associated Press, and datelined Richmond, Va. Specific reference
was made to the ACLU as being totally opposed to widening the situations where
DNA swabs can be mandated for 'minor crimes such as shoplifting and trespassing'.
It is believed true that many perpetrators of more felonious crimes actually begin with
the so-called 'petty' crimes like those. When individuals see that there is little or no
penalty for those, and realize that their crime record does not show them as serious,
it becomes a short step up to much more serious offenses, including murder.
Perhaps the existence of a database for 'emergencies' such as previously
mentioned would serve to side-track some of the objections. However it is my
opinion that those vehemently opposing the expansion would not change their
positions because the overriding goal is to cause enough trouble to have the
officialdom individuals sympathetic to their ultimate goal to seek the total
disarmament of the entire population. If that should occur, a heavily armed
government force would have no problem in reducing the 'helpless to defend
themselves' population. Thus it would be reduced to slavery, as in other nations
around the World.
While my elevated age indicates that it might not occur before my departure,
the well being of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are a major
concern. It is really my wish to leave the planet in as much better condition than
when entered as is humanly possible, given the limited power available.

THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

KNOCK YOURSELF OUT

Over the past several weeks and months we have heard a constant stream of news articles about the dismal state of underfunding in the education system here in Oklahoma. It would be interesting to take a poll of the average citizens on the street and simply ask them how much of the appropriated state budget goes to education; I would bet that very few would know that over half of the budget goes to education. Education consumes more money than all of the other departments combined. Over the past several weeks there has been a call for the teachers of this state to strike for higher wages; while this call may get the education lobby whipped into a frenzy, there are some facts that all of us need to remember.

I come from the working sector, prices and contracts are a way of life to us. My father was a union construction worker for the majority of his working years. He and his other fellow tradesmen negotiated with their employers for their hourly wage for a specific period of time. When their contract with their employers was completed only then would they ask for more money or increased benefits, until then they worked for the wage they agreed too. It is my understanding that all teachers sign a contract at the beginning of the school year to provide their services for that year, the contract insures the school district having the necessary personal to educate the children and it also insures the teacher of having a job for the entire school year without having to fear being terminated over trivial disagreements. In the labor sector if the workers stop working while under contract it is considered breach of contract; it amazes me how we can forget that simple concept when it comes to the teaching profession.

There are many pieces of legislation that affect me personally and I do call my elected officials and voice my opposition, but I do not have the time or the finances to go to the state capital and carry signs all day demanding something from the legislature. If I do take the time to go to the capital I do it at my own expense and I have to neglect some of the work that I have to do on a daily basis; not only do I have the expense to go to OKC, but I also lose the income I would have earned that day. Our school systems should not be using school property to haul bus loads of teachers to the state capital to pressure our lawmakers.

I feel that I have a better solution. Spring break is just over a week away, it is the right of every Oklahoman to seek representation for their point of view; maybe instead of shutting down schools across the state they should consider using the break time to go to OKC. Our children would not have their learning interrupted and the point could be made. Also fulfill the current contract and negotiate for better pay in the next contract period. The mainstream media is not doing the average citizen justice in their slanted reporting, the average HOUSEHOLD income in Oklahoma is $48,038.00 and the per capita income is $25,628.00.  In my home county of Adair the HOUSEHOLD income is $33,184.00 and the per capita income is $16,018.00. When the average teacher salary is 44,000.00 the citizens might like to pay more, but after paying all of their obligations they don't have the funds to pay more.

I believe in the free market system, and if anyone feels that they deserve more money after their contract has expired knock yourself out and go on strike at that time like the rest of us. One final note, when someone in the private sector goes on strike their salary and benefits cease to exist until they return to work.

I vote YES.
Yes or No!

This vote only requires you to forward it to someone else for it to be counted.

YES OR NO .....

As many of you are aware, the Knights of Columbus submitted to congress that the words "Under God" should be added to our pledge of allegiance.  Both Houses of Congress passed the law and it was signed by President Eisenhower in 1954.  The information below was based on a poll taken by NBC on what percentage should keep the words in our pledge versus the percent who want it removed.  If you read this and agree that "under God" should be left in the pledge, then just forward it to others and you have voted for it to be left in.  If you delete it and don't forward it you are voting NO to "under God..."  Easy, huh?

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Shock to NBC ...

This is not sent for discussion.  If you agree, forward it ... If you don't, delete it.  I don't want to know one way or the other.  By my forwarding it, you know how I feel.

86% to keep God in the Pledge of Allegiance and 14% against.  That is a pretty commanding' public response.

I was asked to send this on, if I agreed or delete if I didn't.  Now it is your turn.  It is said that 86% of Americans believe the word God should stay.  Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having God in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Why should our Nation cater to 14%?

If you agree, pass this on.  If not, simply delete.

LOCAL UNFAIR LAWS Week of 2018/03/12
It seems that unfair laws and/or interpretation of them is not limited to the
Federal Government and its bureaucracy, as evidenced by some recent incidents right
here in the City of Tulsa. An example of this came to my attention on February 26
when called upon to drive a recipient of a ticket for 'speeding in a school zone' to the
City Court building for an appearance. Not having permission to show name, that
and gender shall remain undisclosed. The ticket was 'computer printed' and showed
the time as 11:36, the date as 02/12/18, and the location as 6700 S. Mingo, which is
the location of a zone for Union High School.
This zone is, like most in the area, marked by signs with flashing yellow lights at
the beginning which state that 'when flashing speed limit is 25'. This is a good way to
do it, instead of the way it used to be done that the zone was effective at all times.
There is also a sign indicating the end of the zone. It seems to me that the time shown
would not be one where the zone was needed. Also, since the zone is at least one
quarter of a mile long it would be possible for a person to already be in the zone, past
the sign, when it was activated. In my opinion, common sense would dictate that
autos already in the zone would be 'grand fathered' and exempt if proceeding to exit
timely. Ah, but on contacting a person in the court clerks office by telephone, the
information was imparted to me, rather briskly, that "it doesn't matter the driver is still
guilty".
That being the 'official' stance it appears to me that the City of Tulsa, or the
Police Department, is running a 'speed trap' in order to gain more revenue, such as
was done by small towns on highways in past decades, until stopped by the State
Governor a few years ago. There is one school zone, Thereau Learning Academy, on
71st Street South west of Memorial and at least 0ne third of a mile in length, where
there is a second school zone sign in the middle, also with flashing lights, to note to
drivers that the zone has been activated. Amazing common sense and civil courtesy.
It was noticed by me after being told of the ticket at Union H.S. by the driver involved.
On arrival at the court house block it was found that the $5.00 covered parking
area was completely devoid of signs indicating directions to the various buildings.
Counselors take notice. At the court rooms floor it was found that my passenger's
name was NOT on the docket for the court assigned at the 8:30 time. Clerk staff
members promised to get it added, since that was the time on the ticket, but did not
accomplish the task until after 9:00. They had been advised that I had a medical
procedure appointment at 10:30 in Jenks, so I called them to have my appointment
postponed to later in the day.
While observing the court proceedings, it was a pleasant surprise to see and
hear the demeanor and efficiency of the Judge, whose name I did not learn. He was
patient with those appearing, for various offenses, and even questioned each if he/she
was able to pay all or only part at that time. He treated each one with courtesy and
dignity, something not seen by me in a number of courtrooms as juror or expert
witness in the past. He was District III is all I know.
The lesson learned from this experience is that where a school zone is of a
length longer than one block, there should be another sign in the middle, or that once
in the zone when the sign was not flashing the vehicle should be able to finish the
journey legally. Also, it has been noticed that sometimes these signs are flashing at
times when it is obvious that school is NOT in session. In such cases the school
should be held accountable and subject to penalties. If that was the case, the staff
might be more attentive to their signs.
That is mentioned to alert members of the Legislature that some legislation
might be appropriate to rectify such problems. Are you paying attention elected
officials??
All in all, the individuals working in the court building were considerate and
helpful despite their own work load. In fact, on leaving the men serving as contract
security guards even made it a point to thank me for my military service, in WW II,
and one indicated he would try to attend one of our meetings. Such conduct and
consideration is a welcome change from the treatment sometimes received by
employees of government, at all levels, in decades past. Along that line, those
assisting legislative members have been found to be most friendly and helpful when
contacted. I go to them first, since members are supposed to be part time and have
their own businesses or employment outside of elective office. They seem to get things done!!!
One more thing. This completes ten years of these efforts I don't know how much longer.
